About
Jamie Smith is a London-born, Amsterdam-based photographer whose work examines how consumer culture shapes both the portrayal and self-construction of identity, and representations of “the other.” Working with commercial tropes and documentary languages, he uses staged imagery to test what a photograph can credibly show. By turning commercial aesthetics back on themselves, Jamie invites viewers to consider where representation ends and responsibility begins, how we are taught not only to be seen but how to see ourselves.
